DARPin Platform
The exceptional potency and target specificity of DARPins, a new class of protein drugs, gives them the potential to surpass existing antibody drugs and revolutionize protein therapeutics. While protein therapeutics such as antibodies and natural proteins have changed medicine, they often suffer from low efficacy, lengthy and costly development and sometimes toxic side effects. This means that they perform at only a fraction of their potential, and are therefore not fulfilling their promise.
DARPins are superior; these small proteins can be selected to bind to any given target molecule with unmatched affinity and specificity. These characteristics make them ideal agonistic, antagonistic or inhibitory drug candidates. Furthermore, the DARPin technology platform can rapidly develop and engineer DARPin candidates to include: further enhancement of pharmacokinetic (PK) properties, adaptation to carry various effector functions or multiple binding specificities can be combined enabling completely new drug formats. All formats of DARPins can be manufactured to cGMP standard in low-cost and high-yield bacterial fermentation and are easily formulated.
